Heavy rainfall in Mumbai and surrounding regions disrupted local train services on Friday, with trains running behind schedule across key suburban lines, railway officials confirmed. Despite the delays, operations remain functional on all routes, including the Western, Central, and Harbour lines.
According to Central Railway, trains on the Central Line experienced delays of 10 to 12 minutes, while Harbour Line services were running 7 to 8 minutes late. Authorities cited low visibility and safety precautions as reasons for the reduced speed of train operations.
In light of the continuing downpour, Mumbai Police urged residents to remain indoors unless travel is absolutely necessary. Citizens have also been advised to avoid coastal areas and drive cautiously. “Our officials are on high alert to assist Mumbaikars. For emergencies, please contact 100 / 112 / 103,” police said in a statement.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted “generally cloudy skies with heavy rain” for the city. For July 26, the department warned of “heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places” across Mumbai and neighbouring districts.
Additionally, IMD issued alerts for Konkan-Goa and the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, predicting thunderstorms, gusty winds (30–40 kmph), and moderate rainfall. Extremely heavy rainfall is expected in isolated parts of Ratnagiri and Raigad districts, while Thane district is also on alert for heavy showers today and tomorrow.
